National HIT Coordinator Backs Delay of Meaningful Use Stage 2

National HIT Coordinator Farzad Mostashari backed a June vote by the Health IT Policy Committee to delay Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements until 2014.  The recommendation reflects provider concern that the previous Stage 2 timeline left early adopters too little time to update systems as necessary.  The ONC plans on releasing proposed Stage 2 requirements by the end of 2011, with a final rule expected by summer of 2012.
